Prof. Dr. Ulrich Giese is Managing Director of German Institute of Rubber Technology (DIK), Hannover (Germany), where he heads the department "Elastomer Chemistry". He is also a professor in "Applied Polymer Chemistry" at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at Leibniz Universität Hannover.
His research interest is elastomeric chemistry with the main focuses:
- Characterization of multiphase systems (morphology)
- Polymeric fillers
- Rubber/ filler interaction
- Crosslinking
- Aging mechanisms
- Modification of fillers and polymers
- Nanomaterials (synthetic and bio-based)
- Leachables and extractables out of polymer materials
- Elastomer emissions and environmental exposure
- Transport processes in polymers for gases and fluids in elastomers
