High EU funding for research on nanomaterials for LNQE members

Dr. Nadja-Carola Bigall from the Institute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry at the Leibniz Universität Hanover has been granted one of the demanded ERC starting grants. The European Research Council (ERC) promotes every year promising young scientists at the beginning of an independent career. Funded are visionary and excellent research projects with up to EUR 1.5 million each. The total volume of starting grants for 2017 is EUR 605 million. 3081 applications have been submitted, the funding rate is typically around 10%. The LNQE member Dr. Bigall leads a working group with office and laboratory space in the LNQE research building since 2013.

The MAEROSTRUC project, funded by the ERC, is devoted to the targeted arrangement of nanoparticles (so-called gels) in order to develop ultra-pure materials with new physicochemical properties. A thus produced, for example conductive material could possibly be used in batteries, as well as in touch screens and sensors or in photocatalysis.

Congratulations from the LNQE!
