Great Success in Excellence Strategy

Strong participation of the LNQE working groups in the new clusters of excellence

The two applications QuantumFrontiers and PhoenixD from Leibniz Universität Hannover become clusters of excellence within the framework of the federal and state excellence strategy. The existing Hearing4all cluster under the leadership of the University of Oldenburg will be extended.

Congratulations from the LNQE!

Members of the LNQE are represented as leading scientists in all three clusters of excellence:

QuantumFrontiers

Light and matter at the quantum frontier: The scientists of the research network are working on new measuring technologies at the nano-level. Basic physical units such as mass, length, and time should become more precise on this extremely small scale. The effects of quantum mechanics are used specifically to improve measurement accuracy.

Participants from LNQE:

  • Prof. Dr. Boris Chichkov, Institute of Quantum Optics
  • Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Ertmer, Institute of Quantum Optics and Laserzentrum Hannover e. V.
  • Prof. Dr. Rolf Haug, Institute for Solid State Physics
  • Apl. Prof. Dr. Carsten Klempt, Institute of Quantum Optics
  • Prof. Dr. Christian Ospelkaus, Institute of Quantum Optics
  • Prof. Dr. Silke Ospelkaus, Institute of Quantum Optics
  • Prof. Dr. Ernst Rasel, Institute of Quantum Optics

PhoenixD

Precision optical equipment quickly and cost-effectively from additive manufacturing such as 3D printing are the goal. An interdisciplinary team of researchers works together on the simulation, fabrication and application of optical systems. So far, optical lenses made of glass and the surrounding housing fabricated in several steps - often by hand. The specialists of the different disciplines work in the research network on a digitized manufacturing system that can produce individualized products.

Participants from LNQE:

  • Prof. Dr. Peter Behrens, Institute of Inorganic Chemistry
  • Prof. Dr. Nadja Bigall, Institute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry
  • Prof. Dr. Boris Chichkov, Institute of Quantum Optics
  • Prof. Dr. Detlev Ristau, Institute of Quantum Optics and Laserzentrum Hannover e. V.

Hearing4all

Based on the results of the former cluster of excellence, the Oldenburgers have developed the proposal together with hearing researchers from Hannover. Research is being done on the individual treatment of hearing disorders. In the future, the hearing researchers want to map the development chain from basic research to hearing technology on the one hand and the degree of severity of the deafness on the other hand.

Participants from LNQE:

  • Prof. Dr. Peter Behrens, Institute of Inorganic Chemistry
  • Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Ertmer, Institute of Quantum Optics and Laserzentrum Hannover e. V.
