Workshop Photocatalysis and Biology

Japanese-German meeting in Hanover

On 28 and 29 June 2012, scientists and industry representatives from Japan and Germany meet in the Laboratory of Nano and Quantum Engineering at Leibniz Universität to share information about the effect of photocatalysts on bacteria and viruses.

Photocatalysts exposed to light produce reactive oxygen species that destroy bacteria and viruses. With photocatalysts coated materials can therefore be used in areas with higher standards of hygiene, as used for example hospitals. The aim of the meeting is to develop globally standardized test methods for the classification of photocatalytic active coatings.

The international workshop will be held on the invitation of Prof. Dr. Detlef Bahnemann from the Institute for Technical Chemistry, Leibniz Universität, and Dr. Peter Stephan Bloess of Kronos International.
