Professor Bahnemann receives Russian Mega-Grant

Member of the LNQE establishes a laboratory for photoactive nanocomposite materials in Saint Petersburg

With the advertised by the Russian government Mega-Grants internationally renowned scientists are supposed to set up research labs in Russia and thus establish and intensify German-Russian research cooperation. The Mega-Grants were advertised for the fourth time and are endowed with about 2 million Euros each. Six of the 42 winners of the fourth round originate from Germany - Among them is Professor Detlef Bahnemann by the Institute for Technical Chemistry and a member of the Laboratory of Nano and Quantum Engineering of the Leibniz Universität Hannover.

The chemist Professor Bahnemann is an expert on photocatalytic reactions and coatings with nanoparticles. His partner on the Russian side is Professor Alexei Emeline from the Saint Petersburg State University; he is a physicist working in the field of nanophotonics.

The Mega-Grant will be used for the re-creation of a laboratory for photoactive nanocomposite materials at the Saint Petersburg State University. Laboratories here will be fully equipped with latest equipment to develop and investigate these nanomaterials on 250 square meters.
